When we are unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness – Carl Sagan
Every client we work with is racing to leverage the gains from AI and transform their value proposition. AI is not a fad and is, perhaps the most fundamental shift in the way humans live, potentially more disruptive than the rise of agriculture, the industrial revolution or the great urbanisation of our populations. More than disruption, we are talking about outsourcing to machines the qualities that define and differentiate us as human, our ability to think and contemplate, to reflect and imagine – do we want to give away these most precious gifts – all for the great God of convenience?
In this article, published by STORM-ASIA, I apply a very counter-cultural lens to the most important questions, namely: ‘What is the merit or virtue of this technology?’ ‘How does AI serve us?’ ‘Does the use of AI improve the human experience?’
While it is sexy to talk about AI’s capacity for cataclysmic destruction or potential for glorious benefits, it is likely the true impact of AI will be more prosaic but far, far more profound.
